He was five years old when the report about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel. His nanny picked him up and fled, but as she was hurrying to flee, he fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth. (2 SAMUEL 4:4 CSB VERSION &#8211; CHRISTIAN STANDARD BIBLE)<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"en-CSB-8229\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-1\">David\u2019s Kindness to Mephibosheth<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"first-line-none chapter-1\"><span class=\"text 2Sam-9-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">9\u00a0<\/span>David asked, \u201cIs there anyone remaining from the family of Saul I can show kindness\u00a0to for Jonathan\u2019s sake?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-CSB-8230\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>There was a servant of Saul\u2019s family named Ziba.\u00a0They summoned him to David, and the king said to him, \u201cAre you Ziba?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text 2Sam-9-2\">\u201cI am your servant,\u201d he replied.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-CSB-8231\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>So the king asked, \u201cIs there anyone left of Saul\u2019s family that I can show the kindness of God to?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text 2Sam-9-3\">Ziba said to the king, \u201cThere is still Jonathan\u2019s son who was injured in both feet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-CSB-8232\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>The king asked him, \u201cWhere is he?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text 2Sam-9-4\">Ziba answered the king, \u201cYou\u2019ll find him in Lo-debar at the house of Machir son of Ammiel.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-CSB-8233\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>So King David had him brought from the house of Machir son of Ammiel in Lo-debar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-CSB-8234\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>Mephibosheth son of Jonathan son of Saul came to David, fell facedown, and paid homage. David said, \u201cMephibosheth!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text 2Sam-9-6\">\u201cI am your servant,\u201d he replied.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-CSB-8235\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cDon\u2019t be afraid,\u201d David said to him, \u201csince I intend to show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all your grandfather Saul\u2019s fields, and you will always eat meals at my table.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-CSB-8236\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>Mephibosheth paid homage and said, \u201cWhat is your servant that you take an interest in a dead dog\u00a0like me?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-CSB-8237\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Then the king summoned Saul\u2019s attendant Ziba and said to him, \u201cI have given to your master\u2019s grandson all that belonged to Saul and his family.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-CSB-8238\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>You, your sons, and your servants are to work the ground for him, and you are to bring in the crops so your master\u2019s grandson will have food to eat. But Mephibosheth, your master\u2019s grandson, is always to eat at my table.\u201d Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-CSB-8239\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>Ziba said to the king, \u201cYour servant will do all my lord the king commands.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text 2Sam-9-11\">So Mephibosheth ate at David\u2019s\u00a0table just like one of the king\u2019s sons.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-CSB-8240\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was Mica.\u00a0All those living in Ziba\u2019s house were Mephibosheth\u2019s servants.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-CSB-8241\" class=\"text 2Sam-9-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>However, Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem because he always ate at the king\u2019s table. His feet had been injured.
